Gordurinha - Baiano Burro Nasce Morto from Gordurinha Tá Na Praça - Continental 1960
Gordurinha means fatso in Portuguese. The skinny fellow's real name was Waldeck Artur Macedo. This is Gordurinha's first appearance on my blog, thanks to a recommendation from a friend and fellow collector Sindei. The brilliant Gordurinha died from an overdose at age 47 in 1969. His recording career, spanning 1958-1963, was painfully short. He recorded very little after the military coup in 1964, which he staunchly opposed. He may be the earliest forró giant to pass on. His most famous composition was Chiclete Com Banana, which was arguably the most famous composition of the co-writer, Jackson do Pandiero. Chiclete Com Banana just scratches the surface of Gordurinha's wonderful recorded work. Below is a film of Gordurinha performing Baiano Burro Nasce Morto. I replaced the murky audio from a rare YouTube clip with a top shelf vinyl transfer, although the sync is slightly off.
