The music of Elino Julião: Part Two - Aquilo - CBS 1971

The music of Elino Julião: Part Two – Aquilo - CBS 1971

This August, I will be recognizing the music of the late, great Elino Julião (1936-2006). Elino was one of the great voices, recording artists and songwriters of forró. He was one of the shining stars of CBS during the label's golden age during the 60s and 70s.

Aquilo - CBS 1971

Before 1975, Julião had an oddly communal recording career. He recorded split-side albums with Messias Holanda in 1970 {also Zé Catraca}, 1974 and 1975 and Jacinto Silva in 1972 and 1973. He was also a regular in top shelf compilations / coletâneas like O Fino da Roça (Fontana) and Pau De Sebo (CBS). Although there was plenty of Julião material in the marketplace, he only released one solo LP before 1975. Aquilo contained some of the best, most magical recordings of Elino Julião's career and some of my favorite songs from the genre. After 1975, Julião became more of a balladeer like Osvaldo Oliveira. Aquilo is Julião's single authentic forró solo album.
